Fabric-effect lamp with FIMO
Sometimes it doesn’t take much to turn a simple room into a real highlight – a special light, an eye-catching look, and a bit of creativity are all you need. This DIY pleated lamp made with FIMO soft is exactly that kind of it-piece: modern, minimalist, yet full of character. Thanks to its folded structure, it looks like a designer object – and the best part? You can easily make it yourself!
Material overview
What you need
Fimo Soft White 8 packages
Acrylic roll
Blades
Additionally required:
• OSRAM battery-powered light strip
• Light globe, approx. 17 cm diameter that resists 110º Celsius
Step-by-step tutorial
Join all the Fimo blocks and cut it block into 6 equal pieces.

Roll out each piece evenly to a thickness of about 3 mm.
Tip: If you want to create larger folds later, you can use a second block of FIMO to have more surface area.

Place the rolled-out FIMO pieces directly onto the light globe and gently fold the material. Work your way around the sphere – it’s totally fine if the layers overlap slightly. That’s exactly what gives your lamp its unique look!
If you prefer a smoother, more even surface, you can slightly overlap the FIMO pieces beforehand, roll them together, and then work from one single sheet.
Once you’re happy with the shape, bake your lamp at 110 °C for about 30 minutes. Make sure the globe is heat-resistant.

After it has completely cooled, trim the OSRAM light strip to the desired length. Remove the protective film from the adhesive side and stick the strip inside the sphere through the opening.
